Sedat Nizamoglu ,Bilkent University, Turkey, has been awarded the 2010 Photonics 21 Student Innovation Prize for the development and demonstration of a new class of white light emitting diodes (LEDs).
The LEDs are integrated with semiconductor nanocrystal quantum dots for efficient high-quality lighting which have potential for use in future solid-state lighting and displays.

His research interests include nanocrystal integrated light emitting diodes, light-matter interaction of quantum dots and nano-optics. Previous accolades include SPIE Scholarship Award in Optical Science and Engineering and IEEE Photonics Society Graduate Student Fellowships Award in 2009.
His research “White light generation using CdSe/ZnS core-shell nanocrystals hybridized with InGaN/GaN light emitting diodes” is highlighted as a featured article on the cover of the journal Nanotechnology (vol. 18, no. 6 2007).
Sedat received his BSc and MSc in Electrical and Electronics Engineering in 2005 and Physics in 2007 from Bilkent University, Ankara, Turkey, respectively. He is currently a Ph.D. candidate in Electrical and Electronics Engineering under the supervision of Prof. H. V. Demir in the Devices and Sensors Research Group at Bilkent University, a partner of the Nanophotonics for Energy Efficiency Network of Excellence.
